Nine year old child born with Acute Transverse Myelitis

Quadriplegic from the shoulders down, the client receives 4.5 hours a day of PCA services. PCA's assist client with all Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and provide Bowel and Bladder program cares.  PCA's also assist client with homework assignments as needed to help client with meeting educational goals set forth in the client's IEP (Individualized Education Plan).  PCA's also assist client with involvement in community and social events to promote involvement with the community and peer groups.  PCA's assist client to strive for independence though verbal prompts and verbal encouragement.  PCA's assist client on a daily basis with Range of Motion (ROM) exercises and any other suggested physical, occupational, and speech therapies as requested by their prescribing therapists to promote flexibility, independence, and physical exercise to maintain current physical abilities.  Staff also assists client to meet nutritional needs by assisting with oral feedings.
